If I verbally agreed over the phone to renew contents insurance for the shop I work at and then we find cheape?

After cancelling on the phone and via e-mail they are trying to charge the company 拢192.00 sending a recording of me verbally agreeing to renew it. They wanted 拢820 and then we found one for 拢250 so the amount they are after is ridiculous. They say as they are a third party broker I must pay the finance company this charge. I am not a Director of the company|||Some high-pressure scammers try this on all the time .... they ring up the switchboard operator and try to get them (=or anyone else they can get to speak to) to agree some new contract and then try to Invoice the Co.

It is up to one of the Directors to contact the supplier and state that

1) you had "no authority to commit the company" to anything and

2) no Order is legal unless accompanied by an Order Number and

3) further attempts to extort money will be reported to the Police

Some of these cowboys will then go to Small Claims Court (this can be started on-line) the idea being that many Companies will not want to spend the time defending themselves or will ignore the claim and thus find themselves having to pay 'by default' ..|||I would have though you would have at least seven days to cancel under the Distance Selling regs as it was by phone and not in person.

Not knowing the full details I can't be sure, but probably just remind them in writing that it was cancelled and you have nothing to pay (as you MUST formally refute any invoice to avoid liability for it), then ignore them unless they take you to court, which is fairly unlikely.
