What are the penalties of driving around with expired registration?

My cars registration expired in January and it is now February. I tried getting it renewed and found out i owe the state money. The amount i owe is alot and honestly i don't have the money to give the full amount so do you think its possible to make some sort of an arrangement to pay half? And what are the penalties of driving around with an expired registration?|||If your pulled over the car will be towed you will receive a fine 100 in mass not sure were u are but theres also the tow fee and impound fee.|||The ticket and resulting fine, for driving with expired registration varies from state to state but it isn't cheap no matter where you are.|||my neighbor was driving around on a expired registration and wrecked into a 14 wheeler.
