Do I have to take adult driving classes to get my license?

I'm 18 and plan on getting my drivers license by the end of August. I already have a permit that I've had to renew and really want to give it up for a license. Am I required to take a certain amount of documented time on the road or anything before I take the written and road test?|||It depends on where you are from, the state would help !!!
