Landlord chose not to renew lease because another tenant in building wanted additional space and willing to pay double the rent. When went to pay rent was given notice. I swore a business is supposed to be given 60 days but can't find anything saying exact amount of time. Only have been given 30 days. Please help. Thanks.|||If rent is paid every two weeks then it must be two weeks notice, if 30 days then 30 days notice and so on
*EDIT* If the lease is up and was not resigned nothing in the lease will apply from the day it ended. From this day forward it goes by the amount of time you pay rent.
*EDIT AGAIN*
Okay, again, the lease does NOT APPLY, the landlord chose NOT to renew it, therefore there IS NO LEASE!!! (for those who keep refering to the lease)|||It is not a statutory issue. You would have to read your lease agreement and see what is said about termination. 30 days seems reasonable to me.|||Commercial leases don't follow the standard laws regarding residential leases. You would need to go back to the lease you originally signed to see your rights.
things you will want to look for are specifically a clause talking about the notice that must be given. You may also want to check to see if the lease is allowed to be broken at any time during the lease period. You can also check to see if the lease automatically renews as a year to year lease upon lease end. Any one of these could help you keep the space, which is what I am assuming you want to do.
Good Luck!|||Patrick is correct. Read your lease carefully to see how much notice must be given.
