time is up for my lease renewal and I saw that the same apartments that I am living in are advertising rent for $100 less than what I pay. Is there anything that I can do to pay the same price that new tenants are paying to move in. I have been a good tenant for over 4 years and never had a late payment, but feel cheated that others are paying less than me for the same thing.|||If the landlord or management allows it, sure. But, this is a lot like the cable or phone company offering incentives to sign up to their service by offering 1/2 price for 6 mos etc. If the existing customer calls and wants that promo price too, they are told too bad. My guess is they will tell you that. That it is a promo they are offering new tenants.
If they say this, just go find an apartment complex offering promos like this.|||Yes, this exact thing happened to me. The thing you want to do is tell them that you will move out to another apartment complex when your term is over if they do not lower your rent. They will lower your rent to the ad rate because they know you are a good tenant and they know that any new people that come in don't have a track record.
Right now, you are basically a guaranteed and dependable renter. That makes you valuable. As long as you put your foot down and act serious and tell them that you can get a better deal elsewhere with similar quality, they will budge.
Good luck! It'll work:)
