Can a landlord up your rent the same day you sign a lease for a lesser amount?

I just renewed my lease and the landlord said the amount on the rent line was incorrect AFTER I had already signed and initialed everything. Is the lease I signed legal and binding? I haven't signed anything for the higher rent.|||You'll need to google "renters rights" in U.K..We have different laws here and my search didn't show anything.|||Providing the lease specifies the rent (and it is a sensible rent), then it stands. However, in England/Wales non-cooperation is likely to alienate the landlord. At the first opportunity (break clause / end of agreement) he is likely to evict you using s21 of the 1988 Housing Act.

IF the rent amount was silly - like 拢50 a month instead of 拢500 - he could go to court to have it amended.|||To be legally binding both parties must sign. This can be 2 signatures on the same copy of the lease, or each party signing their own copy and then exchanging them.

If the landlord has not signed, or you have not exchanged your signed copies then there is not yet a binding legal agreement, and the landlord can change his mind (as can you). Otherwise the landlord is bound.|||If he's signed the lease too then he has to abide by what he has put his signature to. He has to give you written notice that he is going to increase the rent - it gives you the option to agree to pay or look for some other property.|||I say it's legal, it's his fault for not checking before submitting to you to sign.|||Too bad, so sad. He is bound by the written lease if you have a copy with his signature. He goofed.
